Fillings keep a small problem from getting big
To treat a cavity, we will remove the decayed portion of the tooth and then fill the area on the tooth where the decay once resided. By closing off spaces where bacteria can enter, a filling helps prevent further decay.
We offer a variety of filling materials, including tooth-colored composite. Dr. Wheatley may also recommend an inlay or onlay to restore your tooth. We offer a variety of filling material options to ensure you get results that enhance your smile. The most common simple restoration or “filling” is a composite resin customized to the color of your natural teeth, creating a more natural appearance. These tooth-colored fillings are less noticeable than other materials. Dr. Wheatley offers “silver” fillings made of amalgam if needed or requested.
Even if you don’t have any new cavities, we will check existing fillings during your regular check-up to confirm they are still in great shape and may recommend replacing a filling as they age. If it isn’t broken, we don’t pressure you to “fix” it!
