Surgical Tooth Extractions and Wisdom Teeth Removal

It is always the goal to save your natural teeth, but in some cases a tooth extraction may be necessary because a tooth is too badly damaged from trauma or decay. Dr. Wheatley is skilled at both simple and surgical tooth extractions, so if a tooth has to come out, you are in good hands.

Tooth extractions are a common general dentistry procedure where a tooth is removed from the mouth. Unfortunately, a tooth extraction is sometimes needed due to decay or infection, tooth damage from breakage, or gum disease. We also will pull teeth if it is time to remove impacted wisdom teeth, to make space for orthodontic treatment or when baby teeth won’t fall out to create space for emerging adult teeth.

Don’t put off this necessary procedure. Schedule your consultation today and restore the smile that you deserve. Tecumseh Ridge Dental of Norman accepts most insurance plans. Financing is available as needed. Call us at (405) 857-6453, and we will get you in quickly.

Surgical Tooth Extractions

More complex extractions often are done surgically. This may be necessary because a tooth is impacted, or has deep tangled roots or a serious infection. Many people fear a surgical extraction. However, anesthesia and sedation techniques will help make the procedure as comfortable as possible. Should an extraction be necessary, we offer many options to replace your natural teeth, including implants, bridges, or partial and complete dentures. In any case, we will get you smiling in no time.

Wisdom tooth extractions

We also perform wisdom tooth extractions. When the time comes to remove one or more of the four permanent adult teeth located at the back corners of your mouth, Dr. Wheatley is here to help. If a wisdom tooth doesn’t have room to grow, pain, infection, or other dental problems may occur. An impacted wisdom tooth may grow at an angle toward the next tooth, at an angle toward the back of the mouth, or grow straight up or down like other teeth but stay trapped within the jawbone. We will evaluate and recommend the appropriate procedure.

Separate surgical suite for tooth extractions

Our Norman dental office has a separate surgical suite apart from our regular operatories. It is bright and comfortable and offers the privacy and isolation that some procedures may require.

Will my tooth extraction hurt?

Getting a tooth pulled can hurt. Tooth extractions are not always comfortable, but a skilled dentist like Dr. Wheatley will know how to make you as comfortable as possible. Anesthesia is available during the extraction procedure to eliminate the pain, and should you have anxiety, we may provide a light sedative to ease your fears. Following the procedure, we usually recommend over-the-counter or prescription pain medication to help you manage the discomfort. However, many people are fine once the anesthesia has worn off.

Schedule your consultation today and put an end to dental pain or a smile you don’t like. Call us at (405) 857-6453 or contact us and we will get you in quickly. Please let us know if you are experiencing pain or your extraction is related to some form of trauma, and we will get you in as soon as possible.
